F.R.I.E.N.D.S as everyone knows has been one of the most celebrated sitcom of the 90’s and early 2000’s. It is not only a sitcom that everyone watches on a daily basis, but was more of a family series that everyone watched back then. There are people like me, who watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S whenever possible and whenever I feel low on energy level! Well, this particular series did not start just like that. David Crane and Marta Kauffman were the original founders of this series who went on to cast and film their story.
The sitcom went on to become a great hit and had a sweeping TRP back then. Recently, there have been rumors about making it as a movie. How would have F.R.I.E.N.D.S looked if it was made into a movie?
8 Reasons Why FRIENDS Movie Made An Amazing Attempt
1It’s more than a sitcom
Well, F.R.I.E.N.D.S to start off with was always more than a sitcom to most of the audience. There would have been very few people who wouldn’t have watched the show and that could have been the most wasted time of their life. The crux of the show is about their lives, their stories, their relationships and their breakups. The show that started in 1994 was ideally planned for just 10 episodes, but saw a whopping success in their following episodes. Then the makers decided to increase it season by season. From 10 episodes to 10 seasons is no easy joke! It definitely could have given a personal connect and would have stayed in the ranking for a long time.
2Full time comedy-drama-
Until F.R.I.E.N.D.S, there was no other show that had a full time comedy drama surrounding life of 6 individuals. The show was a comedy in its purest form; it was its bread and butter. Let’s be honest, the show is not a high class drama or an adventure pecked storyline, nor should it have ever been! It never took itself that seriously and that is why we loved it. Quite simple! If a 20 minute episode could tickle your funny bone or make you roll on the floor for the witty lines and reactions, what could a 90-120 minute movie like that do?
Being a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fanatic myself, I certainly would be able to vouch for most of the people who love the series. The show never had a dull side, at least not every episode had a dull side to it. When you see Rachel and Ross breaking up – you weep! PERIOD. You feel like you have broken up with your boyfriend. When you see Phoebe-Joey’s French learning episode, you laugh like never before. When you see how much Chandler and Monica are in love, you smile in awe. You did everything that they did and you absolutely loved it. A transition of all this into a movie would have been out of the world!
It is not always when you see a sitcom taking such a personal unlock to oneself. There are various series now, but this still could have made one of the finest movies. The lead character and their reliving moments could be a separate blooper show by itself and could have made a good reunion episode. They would look old, but hey! They are still your favorite.
The makers could make huge money! It is a proven fact that the series hit more than a 8 to 10 stars. If this could have been made into a movie, the expectation and the hope among the audience to see their favorite star would have been high! People around the world would gear up and wait for the movie to release.
The target audience could have been an easy catch for them. Even now people are watching the series, reliving their memories and making it a good pastime. Many people who hadn’t watched the series, could be targeted. Making it into a movie would give in spotlight to it and make it humongous.
7Twists and turns here and there-
Things that were not incorporated into the series could have been added into the movie. Bigger set, better costumes, better locations could be the focus. There could be a lot of ‘what if’s’ and ‘why not’ situations which would have added spice to the movie.
8Branded as “Should watch”
Then again, the only attempt made by the sitcom industry to take a series into a movie was with “Sex and the city”. That made a huge business both in the small and large television. Considering F.R.I.E.N.D.S, the expectation meter, love for the celebrity would increase, making it a much sought after movie. But if it takes only 10 episodes for the show to look good and not lose its respect among the audience, people should be okay with that! After all, no one wants the movie to get a BOO-HOO!
